The 5th edition of the Cyber Security Innovation Series (CSIS) was held on March 6-7, 2023 at the Intercontinental Citystars in Cairo, Egypt. The event was supported by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), and organized by MS Events. The summit brought together various stakeholders to accelerate innovation in a sustainable and secure manner, address emerging risks, and reframe security practices and technology. The event also focused on preparing to respond to new threats.
The Chairperson of the event was Samia Moussa, Head of Development Partners Bureau at Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The inauguration of the event was led by Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Hafez, Vice President for Cyber Security Affair at EGCERT, National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) on the first day, and Eng. Hazem Nabil, Vice President for Electronic Transactions Security at ITIDA on the second day.
Participants at CSIS 2023 gained insights into the implementation of policies and procedures based on the new Egypt ICT 2030 Strategy, and discussed measures for maintaining resilience and adapting to evolving cyber-attacks. Additionally, attendees explored the significance of implementing appropriate security tools across the organization.
Mohamed Madkour, Chief Cybersecurity Officer at Huawei Egypt, said: “We are glad to participate in the 2nd edition of CSIS Egypt where we tackled the top trending topics, such as Ransom attacks and defense mechanisms, Cloud security and AI security adoption . In the sessions, we discussed that having an advanced cybersecurity and a comprehensive defense system is a top priority since ransomware attacks doesn’t exclusively target personal data, but rather it affects organizations, ranging from government institutions to corporations, and small businesses. In addition, we also shed light on Cloud security frameworks and its relevant data protection as an important practice of securing data in a cloud environment.”
The Cybersecurity Innovation Series Awards ceremony was also held during the summit. Eng. Abeer Khedr, Head of Cyber Security at the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), was named CISO of the year Egypt 2023, while Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Hafez, Vice President of Cybersecurity Affairs at NTRA, was recognized as Cybersecurity Leader of the Year Egypt 2023. Huawei was also awarded Cyber Awareness Plan of the Year Egypt 2023.
