Microsoft is revamping the Skype for Web with the addition of several new features which can now be accessed from browsers on desktop devices.

The new Skype for Web comes with HD video calling, call recording, notifications panel, and a couple of more features. The HD video calling will be available for both one-to-one calls and group calling. The video calls will also feature call reactions.

“Skype has always been about bringing people together. We continue to be driven by the opportunity to connect our global community of hundreds of millions of users, empowering them to feel closer and achieve more together,” wrote the Skype Team in a blog post.

During a call, users will be able to capture special moments with the loved ones or record important meetings with colleagues.

The new Skype for Web will also have a bell icon to show every notification. These notifications can include reactions to the messages, @mentions in group conversations, or when the user is quoted by others. This notification panel is aimed to help users find what they miss in the conversations.

There will be a search option in the conversation window. This will help in finding the messages in a conversation just by typing a related word or phrase in the search box.

Furthermore, to make it easier for users to find files, links, and photos shared yesterday or few weeks ago, Microsoft has added a Chat Media Gallery to the Skype for Web. This feature will eliminate the need for users to scroll through the entire chat history for finding the files or links they’re looking for.

The latest features in Skype for Web will be available with any desktop (Windows 10 and Mac OSX10.12 or higher) running the latest versions of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Apart from this, Microsoft has released the updated MSI distributable for Skype 8 for Windows desktop. It will replace the existing MSI distributable of Skype 7.

“We’re always looking for new ways to enhance the experience, improve quality and reliability, and connect people from any device,” concluded the Skype Team.
